Faculty Resources

Thank you for your interest in participating in a Dulaney Foundation-sponsored continuing medical education (CME) activity. We appreciate your time and efforts. Your contributions are important for the success of our programs.

As you are no doubt aware, medical educators are being asked to document that we are meeting the highest standards of objectivity and content validation by the following organizations:

  • Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
  • Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)
  • Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed)

As a result, we are asking for help in meeting the following responsibilities:

  1. Ensuring that your content:
    • addresses the educational objectives of the CME activity,
    • is objective, balanced and free of commercial bias,
    • complies with these Content Validation Statements >>
      1. All the recommendations involving clinical medicine in a CME activity must be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients.
      2. All scientific research referred to, reported or used in CME in support or justification of a patient care recommendation must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
      3. CME content should not include recommendations, treatment or manners of practicing medicine that are not within the definition of CME, are known to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or are known to be ineffective in the treatment of patients.
      4. If you would like to review a full explanation of these value statements, please click here: ACCME Content Validation Statements.
    • includes a disclosure slide and a verbal statement if you are giving a presentation.
  2. Providing your content on schedule so that the required peer review can be completed and needed changes can be made.
You may either email your presentation to andrea@dulaneyfoundation.org or upload your presentation to: http://dropbox.yousendit.com/DulaneyFoundation. The drop box will automatically send an e-mail notifying me that your presentation has been uploaded. To avoid confusion with other CME events, please include your name, presentation title, and the event name in the subject line.
  3. Complete and return the following forms:
    • Disclosure of any financial relationships you have with entities that provide goods and services to patients, except for hospitals or healthcare systems. If you do not complete this form, per ACCME guidelines, you will not be allowed to participate in the CME activity.
    • Conflict of Interest (Required if you indicate on your disclosure form that your presentation will include discussion of products/services of commercial interests with which you have a financial relationship.)
    • W8 or W9 forms.
  4. Complete one or both of the faculty training tools.
Both tools have been developed to provide all presenters and planners with information concerning crucial CME policies and procedures. Adherence to these policies helps to ensure the independence and validity of the educational content.

Completing either of these courses takes about 20 minutes. Completion of them will qualify you as a faculty member for the Dulaney Foundation.

    - The National Faculty Education Initiative
    - American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery

If you have completed one of these courses within the past year, please confirm your participation below. You will not have to repeat the exercise.
